Everyone seems to be so down on the Boston music scene. Just today I witnessed a five minute long rant about the scene being dead, the music industry being dead and that recording, mixing, producing and marketing can all be done by a 13 year old on MySpace. I supposed the validity in that statement could go either way, as MySpace is a widely used conduit to announce shows and releases of upcoming and well known bands. But as for the music industry itself, its not just some large institution trying to charge too much for an album that you could download for free. There are many freelance and indie labels that don't see their artists as only dollar signs. It's easy to assume that the music industry is collapsing with the plummet of record sales within the last few years. I personally, believe that the music industry is changing and this is the awkward period when we figure out what works. Should more bands follow Radiohead's lead? It seemed to work out for them.

I also decided that it would be a good idea to take advantage of local shows and support new labels, maybe that's a way we can quench the thirst for new music, or at least use it as an opportunity to get out of the apartment.
